News from Allestree: Mar 2017

Since the last e-letter we have had Christmas Events with a Carols by Fairy lights on December 15th led by Rev Helen White followed by Coffee and Mince Pies in the schoolroom. We had people come who had read it in the Allestree Life magazine so it does pay to advertise.

Friendly Circle went out for their Christmas meal, this year we went to Findern Garden Centre where we had a very pleasant time.

Bible Study and Friendly Circle continue to flourish. On April 4th we have Mrs Sue Nickson (District President of MWIB) coming to speak to us and you are welcome to come and join us.

Cameo is struggling with numbers and we have reached the time when we have to consider the future of it continuing or taking a different format or time.

Future events we have planned are:-

July 15th Summer Fair.

Harvest Festival September 16th Bugs and Spuds.

Please pray for our congregation, many getting on in years but still giving their support in whatever way they can, some unable to come now but still supporting us in prayer.

During the summer the outside of the Church (Doors and Fence) were painted and now the Church has a much brighter look to it.

We have had a busy time with events as well starting in July with a Summer Fair held at the Church on a beautiful sunny day. Tables were set up at the front of the Church and also inside and we sold cream teas, we also had stalls for plants, cakes, cards, books and bric a brac. We raised over £500.00 which will be spent on improving the Church. We were very pleased to see people from nearby who came and supported us.

September was the time for our Harvest Festival, we held a Beetle Drive on the Saturday evening This was well supported by friends from other Churches and local people as well and the sum of £94.00 was raised to send to the Padley Centre along with our Harvest gifts. A great time was had by all.

October saw us celebrating our Church Anniversary, 121 years on the present site. The morning service was led by Mr Peter Nelson who also played the organ for us. The evening service was led by Mrs Deborah Simpson a Reader at St Edmunds, with St Edmunds choir singing an anthem and a Psalm accompanied by their organist. We also welcomed friends from St Edmunds congregation and from St Johns’ and Duffield Methodist Churches. At the close of the evening service the Vicar of St Edmunds thanked us and hoped that we would have many more joint ventures. He also took a photo of the cakes on offer in the schoolroom and posted it on twitter.

During the summer we discovered that we were a Pokémon Gym and have found quite a few people outside on their phones who have been willing to tell us about the process.
